First of all, I did take mine apart and took some photos but I was unable to post them like some other products on Amazon.Well, I think there are two extreme opinions on this product, REALLY bad and extremely DEFENSIVE. I can address both sides and give a qualitative opinion.I am/was in the market to replace my old Soda Stream bottles. Somewhere I read that these should be thrown out after 3 years… somewhere. Water started tasting a little musky from both bottles, hence the move to buy new bottles. My first impression was, “These are COOL!” I work with metal at work and opening a cafe so “stainless steel” in the kitchen is a huge plus! So obviously I had to add this to my cart.On “Defense”, I say this. Yes, without reading further and judging only by picture, it is obvious that the clear center portion of the bottle is not metal. My question was, how could they do half metal, half plastic? I mean, it is possible, but not at $20 per bottle, so it was obvious that the bottom part is just a decorative stainless steel trim.On the “Offense”, I actually have a lot more to say. I do a lot of reverse engineering (about 25% of my job), so I was not squeamish about taking my $20 bottle apart, even though it would hurt slightly if I damaged it beyond warranty. Well, if you look carefully, there are two holes at the bottom that don’t seem to belong. Shining a flashlight from top to bottom will reveal that the two holes at the bottom release a couple hooks that attaches the stainless steel trim to the plastic bottle. Inside the stainless steel trim is a plastic structure that support the bottle as well as provide the hooks. On the bottle-side, there is a clear plastic “square” piece that is GLUED to the base of the plastic bottle. This plastic piece is what latches onto the plastic structure in the stainless steel trim. So, in essence, the stainless steel trim IS glued to the bottom of the plastic bottle, not screwed on.The cap is made a similar way, stainless steel around a plastic cap. This is where I was highly disappointed. It may not be feasible to make a hybrid stainless steel/plastic bottle but the cap could have been machined from a block of stainless steel, with a gasket at the top/inside.For $20 per bottle, I think that’s highway robbery. It might not sound like much, but for $20, you could get 2 standard bottles (without the trim) which function exactly the same. Granted, the stainless steel is a nice touch, especially if you’re entertaining. My thought on that is, when you go to a nicer restaurant and order sparkling water, it normally comes to your table in a glass bottle. Granted, when you order Voss at a restaurant, it comes in a glass bottle. When you buy Voss at the supermarket, it comes in a plastic bottle. Same thing. Why entertain, serving homemade sparkling water (benefits are understood) in yet a plastic bottle? I would just serve guests my home made bubbles in a serving glass. Bottom line, again, the trim is a nice touch, but it’s like flaunting a fake Louis Vuitton. LOL3 Stars – Kudos for the “fashionable” stainless steel trim. Coal for it being “fakish” and very expensive for what you get and it functions the same as a standard bottle at half the price.

Someone threw away the plastic bottle that came with our machine. I borrowed a neighbor’s but it was clear that the plastic ones aren’t made to last. I got this one and it’s PERFECT! Sturdy, beautiful, and never mistaken for trash.

These bottles look nice and feel very sturdy. I am surprised by how well these bottles retain carbonation. We bought two and keep them in the fridge with flat water until ready to carbonate. That way we always have cold sparkling water and another bottle ready to go so we cycle them out.

Holds bubbles for days! Wish it was glass, but works well.

I love this bottle. It holds up well to cleaning but do not put it in the dishwasher. I did however just realize that the bottom snaps on and off.
