This works as expected, and conveniently guides the even slicing of whole bread loaves. The flexibility of providing three different slice thicknesses is somewhat counterbalanced by the fact that you can only use one third of the length of the entire device because using the other two thirds results in either thinner or thicker slices. The other feature I found strange is that the highest points of the guides inconveniently “dip” lower in the center, right where the highest point of a loaf of bread really is. That causes you to have to eyeball where to place the knife to start those slices, and if you’re off a little bit the knife may contact the top of the guide instead of sliding between the guide on those slices. If the guides rose in the center to follow the profile of a loaf of bread that problem could be eliminated. Even level guides would be more advantageous than being lower in the center.

It assembles pretty well and has a very generous crumb-catcher. Mine is a little off somewhere and wobbles slightly in the base tray, but it doesn’t impact the functionality much. The vertical slats do allow for easy variation in slice thickness, or you can always move whatever you’re slicing manually to get the thickness desired. You could move the cross-board if you wanted to help line up whatever you’re cutting. As others have noted, using it will cut grooves into the wood baseboard. It happens mostly at the edges. It can be minimized by tilting up the bread a little when cutting at the edge of the loaf…but for the most part this hasn’t been a major problem for me with the slicing guides I’ve used (this is the third). One possibly critical note is that the slicing guide that I received is narrower than the pictures that go with this model (as of early September, 2020) indicate: between the vertical knife guides, it is only 6″ wide, not 6.3″ as stated. The 0.3″ difference may not matter to you.

This handy little guide makes it easy to get uniform and straight slices. I fitted the bottom with a piece of thin flexible cutting “board” to avoid cutting up the bamboo surface. I find it works best to hold the bread steady with one hand and the slice decisively, always keeping the top edge of the blade against the bamboo upright and the bottom of the blade angled just a hair to the right to avoid cutting into the upright. My only complaint is that the sides are not rigidly fixed, and they wobble back and forth slightly while using. But this “flaw” is an unavoidable result of the handyfeature that enables you to fold the whole unit flat for storage. So it’s a tradeoff.

I needed a bread slicing guide for my bread machine made bread which is 5.5 X 6.5 inches across. Very few manufacturers provide dimension where the bread goes, and most were too small. This slicing guide is well made and holds the large bread and using a 10″ bread knife I get even slices. The only issue is that the side guides could have been one inch taller without the artsy wave in length. Function over form.

It wont fold down after fully opened .It seems locked in place

This is sturdy when open, easy to fold and store, and the choice of different slice thicknesses is great and easy to use. One piece of advice is that using a piece of thin, flexible cutting board in the bottom will keep you from scoring the bamboo with your knife, and will extend the life of the guide

It allows me to cut straight slices but it will wiggle around if not careful. You have to remove loaf from it to finish the bottom crust. It is a nice looking unit.

A little too wiggly for me when slicing bread.
