   The first time I used this, it worked as expected. The second time, the sides came off, and I almost lost the springs. Also, since it fell apart, I don’t seem to get consistent slices.When it was together, it was easy to use. Select the thickness of the slice by positioning the board, hold the bread against the board and one side, and use a long knife to cut several slices of the chosen thickness. Remove those slices, move the loaf, and repeat. Since it broke, I don’t believe that the sides are staying parallel. At any rate, it does not seem that the results that I am getting are as consistent.UPDATE: The seller contacted me about this, and in less than one day has ordered a replacement. I will see how the replacement does, but I increased my rating from two to four stars based on the customer service..

OK, my mistake. So, I cut one side off the loaf to fit into this guide. That’s where the fun begins.Pros:1. It is collapsible2. It’s made from renewable bamboo3. It has a crumb trayCons:1. When slicing, your bread knife will score the bamboo bottom if you aren’t careful. So, if you have a thicker crust bead, you may want to be aware of this.2. It’s flimsy – When collapsing the slicer, one end popped out and for the life of me (and my spouse) the only way we could put the peg back in the hole was to break/cut something.Was it worth it? Not for me, but I am not saying it won’t work for you. I would not buy this again since it doesn’t fit my needs.

   I was hoping this would be easier than cutting homemade bread without a guide. It will be when I get a longer bread knife. It’s a bit wide so the standard bread knife hits the opposing side as you cut through the bread. There is a crumb tray, very handy, and slats allow for 3 slicing sizes, also good. It’s just that the knife, again a standard bread knife, is gouging the inside of the slats because the width of the holder is just too wide for a standard bread knife to make nice cuts. It’s a bit frustrating. I’ve ordered a longer than standard bread knife to resolve this issue.

   I loved the idea of even slices of bread. I purchased it for my homemade sourdough, unfortunately. I make standard-sized sourdough bread using a standard-sized banneton and the loaves are too big for this slicer. I purchased the largest one I could find. The measurements are for the OUTSIDE width and length and therefore did not fit the loaves. I had to cut the loaves in half in order to fit and use this item. Worse though, after the first time I used this, the trim all the way around the edge broke off. It is cheaply assembled from the too small of staples used to hold the trim on. The trim is NECESSARY in order to hold the base of the slicer in place while slicing. Unfortunately, I did not open the product and use it until after the allowed return time so I tried a few things to try and make it work for the half loaves…It was a waste of money and I no longer even try to use it. Also, the knife practically cuts through the bamboo like a saw and I cant imagine that it would hold out for very long with regular use.
